The AI for Understanding and Designing Materials (aiM) program at Duke University proudly announces the successful dissertation defenses of its doctoral candidates for the 2023-2024 academic year. These achievements highlight the program's commitment to integrating artificial intelligence with materials science.

Dissertation Highlights

  • Hao Zhang: Defended his dissertation titled "Stochastic modeling of parametric and model-form uncertainties in computational mechanics: applications to multiscale and multimodel predictive frameworks." He was advised by Johann Guilleminot.
  • Jessica LaLonde: Jessica's research focused on "Advancing Polyhydroxyalkanoate Biopolymer Material Design: Integrating Machine Learning and Experimental Validation," under the guidance of Stefan Zauscher.
  • Peiyi Chen: Peiyi's dissertation, "On the Construction of Admissible Representations for Scientific Machine Learning and Uncertainty Quantification, With Various Applications in Computation," was guided by Johann Guilleminot.
  • Winston Lindqwister: Winston presented his work on "Homogenization of chemo-mechanically active porous media microstructures," under the supervision of Manolis Veveakis.
