Training Program Integrating AI/Data Science and Materials Science

WHO CAN APPLY 

The fellowship application window will open Spring 2026. In the meantime, please fill out the interest form and plan on participating in aiM via the established certificate or the dedicated masters options.

The aiM-NRT training program was open to two categories of students

  • Current and Admitted Duke PhD Students
  • Prospective Duke students who have applied to a PhD program

For CURRENT AND ADMITTED DUKE PHD STUDENTS take the following steps to apply:

  1. Complete the aiM online application form. We are not currently accepting fellowship applications.
  2. Within the application, upload your current CV (2-page max)
  3. Upload a short essay (1-page max) on why you are interested, your experience, and skills relevant to aiM core areas
  4. Upload your unofficial Duke Transcript
  5. Ask your Duke advisor to email a letter of recommendation to  ai_materials@duke.edu

For PROSPECTIVE DUKE STUDENTS WHO HAVE APPLIED TO A PHD PROGRAM take the following steps to apply:

  1. Apply to the Duke graduate school through one of the participating departments (see list below)
  2. Complete the aiM online application form.  We are not currently accepting fellowship applications.
  3. Within the application, upload your current CV (2-page max)
  4. Upload a short essay (1-page max) on why you are interested, your experience, and skills relevant to aiM core areas
  5. Upload your Undergraduate/Masters Transcripts
  6. Ask one of your references to email a letter of recommendation to ai_materials@duke.edu.

Admission into aiM-NRT will be contingent upon student entrance into their respective graduate department at Duke.
